Text Message Crashes the iPhone: Quick Fix for the iOS Messages Bug

Apparently, all iPhone users are at risk!
It seems that a text message with Arabic characters can crash an iPhone, while the user is attempting to delete the message.

It is yet unconfirmed how many devices were affected by the bug, but it seems that many analysts seem to believe that it can really cause damage to a phone.

Allegedly, the bug can also affect Twitter and permanently breaks Snapchat text chat. The bug comes in Arabic characters, Marathi and Chinese, and is able to crash devices that use apps running on iOS.

This includes the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Mac. Tests conducted by The Guardian along with security researcher Mikko Hypponen alleged that the damaging message can be sent via Twitter, either using direct messages or public mentions.

So, if an iPhone user has the notification option tuned on, the message is able to instantly crash the device. However, these tests tried to calm users down, alleging that the bug did not cause lasting damage to the devices it affected.

As already mentioned, it is important for users to know that Twitter is not the only affected.

Snapchat has been attacked, too. When users try to read the message with the Arabic text here, it permanently crashes the device.

What does it mean that it crashes the device?

The bug will make it impossible for the user to open its chat history with the person who sent the message, at least without crashing the device.

Still, the device will function with no problems when it comes to sending and receiving messages from other contacts. Allegedly, Apple reacted fast after the bug was exposed.

The famous tech giant issued recovery instructions for the Messages app. So, users will be able to access Siri to reply to a message, which means that they will be able to then delete the affected conversation and eliminate the problem.

Users may also access the Photos app to send a picture to a contact and this way be able to access the message history and have the defective message deleted.

Apple also claimed that it will soon release a software fix for the bug, but it is yet to be launched.

Apple is aware of an iMessage issue caused by a specific series of unicode characters and we will make a fix available in a software update. Until the update is available, you can use these steps to re-open the Messages app .

There is no word on how and why the bug appeared. Allegedly, this is no more than a prank, so users do not have to worry about a hack, at least for now.
