Samsung's mobile payment platform, Samsung Pay finally went live in India earlier this week, and the support was limited to the company's premium Galaxy line-up including Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy A7 (2016) and Galaxy A5 (2016).

Now according to a report published on Mashable, Samsung Pay will be available soon on the company's mid-range Galaxy J phones. The move makes sense considering Galaxy J line up is one the of best selling Samsung smartphones in the country. Some of the recently launched Galaxy J phones have the hardware capability to work with Samsung Pay, for example, the Galaxy J Prime features fingerprint scanner. On the other hand Galaxy J phone, that do not have the required hardware, like the Galaxy J2, will rely on PIN based authentication system for making payments.

Currently, Samsung pay works with Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards issued by Axis Bank, HDFC, ICICI, Standard Chartered and SBI. Support for Ameican Express and Citibank will be added soon. It also supports PayTm.

Samsung Pay uses Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies, to let users make contactless payments at PoS terminals.

Samsung's decision to bring Samsung Pay to India comes at a time when when mobile wallet apps and other e-payment solution are seeing exponential growth in both transactions and app downloads, following the country's  demonetization move last year.
