Apple Rumored to Release Updated iPod Touch

While many analysts claimed that the future of the iPod remains under uncertainty, given the amazing functionality of other wearable devices, including the iPhone and the new Apple Watch, some rumors indicate that Apple is actually planning on updating the iPod Touch.

So, now rumors indicated that Apple will launch a new iPod touch later this year. Sources talking to Apple Insider revealed that this new product will come with camera and processor improvements. However, the report indicated that in terms of design, things are not going to change a lot. Actually, sources alleged that the refreshed portable media player will most likely have a similar design as the current model.

The last update to the iPod Touch dates back to two-and-a-half years ago, so this means that Apple has last refreshed its iPod Touch in October 2012. One of the simplest ways to explain this reality is through the decline in sales experienced by this product. So, the sales for the iPod Touch have decline for several years, becoming the shadow of flagship products such as the iPhone, iPad or the Mac.

Given that Apple has neglected the iPod lineup for several years, giving this product some new updates is not something unlikely to happen. So, the report may be true after all. However, if an update will be made to the iPod, everyone expects for Apple to bring something new and impressive in this product.

For instance, Apple might add some next-generation features to the device, as well as support for the Apple Pay.

The A6 processor might also be featured in an upcoming iPod. The device could also see some updates when it comes to storage, being able to offer users 16, 32 and 64 GB of storage. Despite the claims that the design of the current device will be maintained, given that Apple has made huge design changes in its latest devices, it would be hard to believe that the company will not continue on that trend with the release of the iPod.

If the report proves to be accurate, Apple is expected to make the release at its next iPhone event, which is set to take place in September. However, this is not a rule. The tech giant may take advantage of any other moment to make the launch.
