The last thing that people will want is to ruin their good time after dropping their e-reader in the water. No worries, because Kobo thought about these situations and has released the new Aura H2O. This new e-reader is available at the price of 179 US dollars.
Moreover, the company made it lighter and thinner than its predecessor. Other improvements are the waterproof feature, customizability and adaptive backlighting. As we know, these features are also found on the Aura One mode, which comes with a bigger screen and costs 50 dollars less.
The new Kobo Aura H2O will definitely be the main competitor for the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite. But, as we know, Amazon’s device will remain a better value for those who are searching comfort far from water.
So, the new Kobo Aura H2O will be the most recommended device when it comes for reading near the beach or pool. Let’s talk about what’s new on this device and what features will receive customers.
As we mentioned, this new e-reader is lighter and thinner compared with the previous model. The new Kobo Aura H2O measures 6.7 x 5.1 x 0.3 inches. Moreover, this new e-reader weighs approximately 7.3 ounces.
As we know, the Aura One measures somewhere around 7.6 x 5.4 x 0.3 inches. On the other side, its main competitor, the Paperwhite, measures 6.6 x 6.7 x 0.4 inches. So, as we see, Amazon’s device is the easiest to hold in hand.
Moving forward, we must say that the new Kobo Aura H2O comes with a new blue power button that is situated on the back of the top right edge. To be added that it comes with a textured black, which makes one-handed reading much easier, compared with the previous model.
The new Kobo Aura H2O comes with a 6.8 inch Carta E Ink touch screen that features a resolution of 264 pixels per inch. As we know, this is not the sharped display that Kobo has made. The Aura One model comes with a 300ppi display.
But, the differences between these two screens are not sizable, especially for text. This difference is more noticeable for images, but probably customers will want a color tablet to read comics or other materials.
As we mentioned earlier, this new e-reader comes with an improved waterproof rating. The company claims that this device went up to IPX8. This means that customers will be able to submerge the new Kobo Aura H2O up to 6.5 feet of water for an hour. This is approximately twice as deep and long as the previous version.
