Asus reportedly to discontine ZenWatch line of Android Wear watches
Asus is popularly known for its PCs, laptops and smartphones. But it also makes smartwatch as well, which could not generate much wave, compared to other devices.
According to Digitimes, Asus could discontinue its ZenWatch product line due to lower than expected sales of the device. The report citing supply chain sources, claims that the shipments of ZenWatch line is currently averaging 5,000 to 6,000 units per month, which does not meet Asus' expectations and is much lower, when compared to Apple, Fitbit and Xiaomi who are key players in the wearable market.
If the report is true, Asus is considering to quit the smartwatch market and discontinue ZenWatch line up. However, the news is yet to be confirmed by Asus, so until then, it is advised to take this report with a pinch of salt.
Asus unveiled its first ZenWatch in 2012, and following couple of follow ups, in 2016, it released the Android Wear powered ZenWatch 3. The ZenWatch 2 and ZenWatch 3 were also expected to get Android Wear 2.0, but Asus is yet to roll out the update.
